Why SSP

We do not cover every sport. We specialise in soccer.

The US college soccer pathway is different from other sports. The recruitment process, coaching networks, player profiles, video expectations, scholarship discussions and pathway decisions all require specialist football understanding. SSP is built specifically for footballers, families and college soccer coaches.

James Wilson, Founder of Soccer Student Pathway

Built by people who have lived the pathway

The specialist US college soccer consultancy built from real experience.

Before founding SSP, I went through the US college soccer pathway myself.

Originally from Essex, I moved to the United States to continue both my football and academic career, first at Herkimer College in New York where I was part of back-to-back National Championship teams, before transferring to NCAA Division I St. John’s University in New York City.

Going through the system personally gave me a real understanding of how overwhelming the pathway can feel for players and families. Recruitment, scholarships, eligibility, coach communication, transfers and long-term fit all play a huge role and too many players are forced to navigate it without genuine football-specific guidance.

SSP was built to change that. We intentionally work with a limited number of players so the support stays personal, honest and relationship-driven. Every player receives direct guidance shaped around their level, ambitions and pathway.

Having experienced the system myself and spent years working closely with college coaches, players and families, I understand both the opportunities and realities of US college soccer. SSP exists to help players make better decisions, feel properly supported and approach the pathway with more clarity and confidence.

What Families Say

Trusted guidance from people who understand soccer.

“The first call completely changed the direction of our daughter’s recruitment. James gave us a realistic understanding of her level, explained the college landscape properly and helped us build an actual plan instead of guessing our way through the process."

Parent of Women’s Academy Player

“Entering the transfer portal was overwhelming at first, but SSP helped me navigate everything properly. From identifying better-fit programmes to coach communication and profile positioning, the support made a huge difference and helped me transfer to a school I genuinely wanted to be at.”

NCAA Transfer Student-Athlete

“What separates SSP is the ongoing support. I’ve been in college soccer for three years now and James is still available whenever I need advice or want to talk something through. Having someone there to support you who has also been through the college system has been so helpful.”
