Why proper player evaluation matters
The US college soccer pathway is not simply about finding good players. It is about understanding where a player may realistically fit, what level they can target, how they present themselves, and whether their timing, academics and goals align with the route.

A player’s pathway should not be based on one training session or one highlight clip. Context, consistency, character, academics and fit all matter.
The limits of traditional football trials
Trials can be useful, but they often provide a very narrow snapshot. A player may perform well or poorly on the day for reasons that do not reflect their true level, consistency or long-term potential.
Some players are better evaluated through match footage, profile history, playing environment, development background and ongoing review. This is especially important for players exploring international recruitment.
